16 km walk at Karpasia Tip - Apostle Antreas

Our walk starts at the historic Apostle Antreas monastery and goes north west, all the way to the north Karpasia coast.  The walk is in a pristine, almost untouched by man, rich in biodiversity area of Cyprus, dominated by low juniper vegetation. Walkers may see many different plant species, many of them in bloom  from February to May.  One will probably see some of the feral donkeys that live in the area. These are descendants of animals left behind in Rizokarpaso village by some of its Greek Cypriot inhabitants when they had to leave after the 1974 invasion and ongoing occupation. The walk offers excellent vistas of the north Karpasia coast towards Ourania (some ruins remain of this medieval city) and all the way east to Kleides islands and south to Apostle Antreas monastery. A high point of the walk is probably a stop at Apostle Antreas cape, the most eastern point in Cyprus. After the 16-km long walk travellers can be rewarded with a stop at incredible four-km long Pachyammos beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean (there are a couple of other excellent beaches by or near the walking route - one on the north coast and one on the east).

The walk can be easily be extended to 20 km on the north coast to reach a lovely secluded beach known as 'Mora Psaria'.
