A 3-day self-Guided walking trip around Akamas - average 12.5 km per day
This is a three-days (four nights) two bases walking trip around the Laona Plateau and beautiful Akamas, the legendary playground of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love and beauty. The route goes also through some of the picturesque stone-built villages on the Laona Plateau, presenting the traveller with elements of the island's cultural heritage (not least of which is its cuisine).
The route is offered all year round and is customisable.
Climate - sea water temperature
Please check the relevant climate and sea water temperature information. During the hot season, many people would find walking on the island uncomfortable. However the fact that the route is largely on a ridge and a plateau, as well as near the north west coast, means that it is cooler. While in late autumn, winter and spring the scenery may be greener, summer has also significant green tones in the form of vineyards, olive, carob orchards and juniper bushes near the coast. In summer and autumn the sea water temperatures are higher and those explorers into snorkelling may be blessed with spotting some of the thousands of sea turtles that visit Cyprus during the warm season to feed and reproduce.

Detailed Itinerary
On Day 1 the explorers arrive at the hotel. For those who do not have transportation, we can arrange taxi transportation (for the relevant fee).
On Day 2 the travellers explore on foot the eastern slope of the Laona Plateau. The default version of the route starts at Droushia village and passes through the stone built Kritou Terra village, pretty and well preserved, home to the first casino on the island, from just before 1900. The walking route passes by the waterfall of Kremmiotis and the medieval tiny Agia Paraskevi chapel (the adjacent watermill and gorge, as well as a number of catacombs).
Encountering boulders & enjoying vistas of Chrysochou Bay
On Day 4 walkers (usually) walk a combination of Adonis circular trail, Aphrodite circular trail and a stretch of the coastal dirt road towards the north west cape of Cyprus. After the main ascent on the east stretch of Adonis trail walkers pass by the ruins of a medieval monastery and a huge old oak tree. The route ascends onto the imposing Moutti Tis Sotiras peak, from where walkers enjoy glorious views of the north west, and of the north coast, all the way to Pomos village towards the north east.
Agia Paraskevi medieval chapel, near Kato Akourdalia village
On Day 3 the travellers do a self-guided walk towards the north of Droushia village, in the direction of the aboandoned Turkish Cypriot village of Androlykou. The route is characterised by many big boulders scattered all around and by beautiful vistas of Chrysochous Bay and of the ridge and east slope of the Akamas peninsula. Travellers walk mostly on cement rural roads, instead of more natural (yet considerably more muddy) dirt roads.
On Moutti tis Sotiras peak - Day 4 walk
The descent from the peak (part of Aphrodite trail) is for many walkers a huge highlight of the whole trip and probably one of the very best walking routes on the island.
Once we reach the coastal dirt road, and if travellers are OK with hiking further west, usually we go as far west as the very particular Koufotrypis 'beach', a very narrow fjord-like part of the coast. There is a very special sea cave close by with two entrances that is highly recommended for those interested in exploring the water a bit.
(Returning back east from Koufotrypis) the stretch on the coastal dirt road next to cliffs also offers lovely views.
Walkers leave Akamas from small yet mythical Baths of Aphrodite cave.
On Day 5 the walkers leave the hotel.
Enjoy our Akamas and our Laona!
