Rich Cultural heritage
Omodos stone-built wine producing village will be the base of the travellers. The ancient monastery in its center, dates from the third century AD. There are two 'linos' old big manual grape presses in the village, open to the public as well as wine tasting establishments and shops whose ware ranges from locally processed glass, local processed food, silverware and lace. Some of the best village restaurants in rural Cyprus can be found in Omodos. The main square, in front of the monastery, with its mulberry trees offering shade during the hot season, and its coffee shops and restaurants, is a very pleasant place to relax before or after a day's walk.

On Day 1 travelers arrive in Omodos (and their rented Escooter equipment is delivered to them). Depending on the time of arrival they could relax and explore the village.
On Day 2 the escooter route passes through the stone-built villages of Vasa Koilaniou and Arsos. Travellers can explore the villages, visit a local winery (eg Argyrides in Vasa) local churches, etc. In Arsos there is a linear 1.25 km walking trail along 6 medieval springs. Travellers could visit village coffee places, and possibly get to chat with locals. The views along the route are a mixture of vineyards dotted by stone built villages, forest, Troodos mountain peaks. From Arsos travellers go to Diarizos Valley and Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge via Agios Nikolaos village. The route goes near Arminou manmade lake. Kelephos is the most photographed medieval bridge in Cyprus, and just inside Paphos Forest. The medieval bridges walking trail passes via the bridge. About 1.5 km from Kelephos, one finds Platy Valley, where one could walk on a dirt road next to a stream for more than 8 km each way.
Myllomeris waterfall constitutes a marvellous natural attraction and a cool place, especially in Cyprus hot summer. We highly recommend the 1.2 km short linear Myllomeris trail from/to Pano Platres village, much of it under shade in summer.
Those who prefer a more rigorous walk can make a one km longer ride upto Psilon Dendron locality, the downhill end of steep 3 km linear Caledonia Waterfall trail. Both versions of the escooter route pass through Pano Platres a big mountain resort in the last century, a good stop to recharge your batteries before the descent back to Omodos. |
The Day 3 route takes travellers through vineyards to even more, picturesque stone - built villages (Potamiou, Vouni, Koilani) and subsequently through the Calabrian pine forest on the south slope of Troodos. There are opportunities for wine tasting at some of the best wineries in Cyprus. The route passes by two watermills (Kissousa and an atypical one at Pera Pedi), Agia Mavri medieval chapel and ancient huge plane tree, (close to) four medieval bridges (in Potamiou, near Agia Mavri and Milia near Pano Platres and the small Pera Pedi manmade lake. The escooter route passes quite near Myllomeris waterfall.
