Self-Guided Walking Trips from Kakopetria village
Kakopetria village is situated on the north slope of Troodos mountains, at an elevation of around 650 meters. It is the highest of the villages in the Solea Valley and one of the relatively large mountain villages in Cyprus with about 1,000 inhabitants. It is about an hour away by car from Nicosia and Limassol and about one and a half from Larnaca and Paphos. While it has a modern part, is also has a well preserved traditional stone-built quarter, with a very particular architectural style. It is home to a medieval bridge, a well preserved watermill, a traditional olive press (museum) a traditional grape press, and more. Two Unesco World Heritage Troodos painted churches are with walking distance. Staying at the old part of the village is highly recommended for those who want to explore authentic Cyprus. There is a short rail next to the stream at the village, and a number of walking routes (we composed a few), of different length and difficulty level. For those who want to explore some of the truly best walking experiences on the island, we offer self-guided walking trips from Kakopetria village. For these, we provide travellers with relevant GPS files as well and relevant taxi/minibus rides.
