Climate

Cyprus climate is mild, with cool winters and hot, dry summers.  In the Troodos mountains, (top elevation is close to 2,000 m / 6,500 f) it snows every year, and in fact there are a few ski pistes operating usually for a couple of months.  Water shortage is one of the biggest problems of Cyprus as the island faces frequent droughts.  This problem has been handled through the construction of dams, improvement in water management and the introduction of desalination plants.
The coast is warmer in winter and cooler (and more humid) in summer, while the large Mesaoria plain is dryer, colder in winter and hotter in summer.  The west part of Cyprus is generally cooler.

Notes:

Note 1:
For Akamas Climate we used data at the nearby Polis weather station (elevation 15 m / 50 f).  You should keep in mind that most of the Akamas peninsula is at a higher elevation (average is probably around 400 m / 1,300 m) and temperature will be probably a couple of degrees lower than those in Polis, or on the actual Akamas coastline in general.

Note 2:
To present Ayia Napa climate (the village is also spelt 'Agia Napa') we used the closest weather station (at an elevation of 70 m / 230 f), which is in nearby Paralimni village (some 10 km / 6 mi) away.  For all practical purposes you can consider Protaras climate to be the same.

Note 3:
We use Troodos climate at Saittas as an approximation for various points on our walking routes, that have a similar elevation (Platy valley, Salamiou village, and even Panagia village and Phiti village).

Note 4:
(Top) Troodos climate refers to the climate at the highest elevation Troodos peak (mount Olympus or Chionistra).  We used the Prodromos village weather station, which is less than 10 km / 6 mi away, but has an elevation of 1,380 m / 4,550 f, considerably lower than that of mount Olympus (elevation of 1,960 m / 6, 400 f).  The temperature on mount Olympus is usually about two degrees lower than that of Prodromos village.  Troodos square is at an elevation of 1,700 m /  5,600 f, with the temperature difference with Prodromos being smaller.
