10.5 km kayaking route: Aphrodite's Rock - White Cliffs - Pissouri Bay
This is one of the best kayaking routes in Cyprus, characterised by the presence of two geological attractions in Cyprus: a) the imposing White Cliffs of Pissouri, at places upto 150 meters high and b) Aphrodite's Rock, mythical birthplace of Aphrodite (Venus to the Romans), the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty.
Aphrodite's Rock is a place with very special ambiance, decorated by peculiar rock formations and different geological strata (including magmatic). It is part of Unesco World Heritage Paphos. There are a few collections of tall rocks that create narrow shaded waterways. There is even at least one small sea cave that one may enter in a kayak. The rocks are frequented by seabirds.
The White Cliffs are a very atypical feature of Cyprus coastline and an excellent natural place to explore both on the sea on a kayak as well as by walking on the plateau above them. The cliffs are stunningly white, except for small stretches with coloured layers. The rock is soft, almost along the whole stretch. The cliffs continue largely uninterrupted until Pissouri Bay (nearly 10 km away) with two breaks: a) Prolimnos beach which is in the west part and easily accessible on a dirt road and b) further to the east, one finds Lachanikon beach, not accessible by car. These are pebble beaches. Kayakers may be in the company of waterbirds, seagulls and cormorants.
Further east, after Cape Aspro (which means 'White' in Greek) one reaches Pissouri bay, one of the most dramatic organised beaches near Limassol, and has cliffs on both of its sides, white towards the west and reddish towards the east.
Enjoy this unforgettable journey!
Cyprus Walks Etc offers different standard guided kayaking trips on sea touring (sit inside) kayaks. Specifically for the White Cliffs we offer a trip that combines kayaking with walking. We also offer customised kayaking trips (including trips for groups of six on sit-on-top kayaks).
