Akamas 3-nights guided walking (usually Droushia based, otherwise on the coast west of Latchi)
Average length 10 km per day - with longer and shorter options for each day
This is a two-days guided walking trip that offers some of the best walking experiences on the beautiful island of Cyprus, specifically in the protected peninsula of Akamas. 3-nights accommodation is usually in the picturesque village of Droushia. Alternative overnights in hotels on the coast to the west of Latchi can also be arranged. The average walking distance per day is abt 10 kilometers. In the same package, for every day there are longer (and shorter, especially for summer) walk alternatives. The trip focuses on Akamas trails. We recommend this program for all year round. In summer we suggest to complete the walks in the morning, when it is cooler. Especially for cooler times we recommend longer versions (usually ranging from 13 to 20 km each).
Below one can see most the standard walks in the program.
Day of Trip | Distance in km | Total ascent (m) | Total descent (m) | Average elevation (m) | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Day 2 | 11 | 500 | 500 | 200 | Adonis+Aphrodite trails combo. One of the best in Cyprus. Possibility to extend it or to shorten it (especially in summer). |
Day 3 | 9 | 500 | 500 | 350 | Pissouromoutti + Smiyies trails. Shorter/split/longer options are available. |
Average of the two days | 10 | 500 | 500 | 250 | Possibility to do also shorter or longer walks each day. |
Longer and shorter Walks
Please remember that the nature of the package allows route selection on each day, in order to cater for different traveller preferences per day (7 - 15 or longer km for Day 2, 3 - 20 km for Day 3) .
The itinerary (summary) - please remember that we have other options for shorter, longer or even different routes in the package
Day 1 - Arrival to Droushia village. Travellers can choose packages with taxi from Paphos airport or no taxi (overnight in Droushia)
Day 2 - Free ride by guide to start and from end of walk - Walk on a combo of Adonis and Aphrodite trails (overnight in Droushia)
Day 3 - Free ride by guide to start and from end of walk - Walk the Smiyies (long or short version) circular trail and/or the Pissouromoutti trail. Especially in summer, it would be possible to break the two into an early morning and a late afternoon walk (overnight in Droushia)
Day 4 - Finish
Detailed Itinerary
On Day 1, walkers (who bought the relevant taxi airport package) are transferred by taxi from the Paphos airport to Droushia village where they stay for three nights. Depending on the time of arrival visitors could relax and explore this stone-built village and/or visit a number of attractions in the area, including the Turtle museum in Ineia village (upto 1.5 km away).
On Day 2 we usually do a combination of Adonis circular trail and Aphrodite circular trail. The route is excellent all through the year (more difficult in summer), including winter, when the place is largely green and full of wildflowers.
According to legend Aphrodite and Adonis regularly met in Akamas. After walking up the east stretch of Adonis trail we pass by the ruins of a medieval monastery and a huge old oak tree. The route ascends onto the imposing Moutti Tis Sotiras peak. Walkers enjoy glorious views of the north west coast, and of the north coast, upto Pomos village towards the north east.
The descent from the peak is probably one of the very best walking routes on the island.
The last part of the route is on the coastal dirt road, on the cliffs. The walk ends at tiny and mythical Baths of Aphrodite. During hot summer, we recommend a shorter version (to do only Aphrodite trail, 7 km long). During cooler times, we could do longer versions of the route, eg go further west upto Koufotrypis beach or even Blue Lagoon (extend the route to 13 or more km).

On Day 3, we propose a walk on the ridge of the Akamas peninsula, that presents travellers also with part of the west (Lara coastline). Our recommendation is to do an 'eight' route starting and finishing at the Smiyies picnic site, the legendary meeting spot of Adonis and Aphrodite. The default route is upto 9 km long and consists of the long version of the Smiyies trail and of the Pissouromoutti trail. The route presents walkers with glorious views both of the west coast as well as of the Bay of Chrysochous. A significant cultural component of the trip is a stop at the church of Agios Minas, what remains of a medieval monastery on the site. For summer, we do recommend either to do a shorter version of the route (eg only Pissouromoutti or Smiyies trails), or even to break the route into two, eg Pissouromoutti trail early in the morning and Smiyies trail late in the afternoon. Outside summer it is possible to extend the routes, even upto a total length of twenty kilometers. Other cultural/natural attractions are related to the magnesium mines in the area. In significantly longer versions of the walk, there are other medieval chapels along the route.
On Day 4 morning, the package ends. If travellers want we can book additional nights, etc, otherwise (for those who bought a package with taxi to the airport) we arrange a taxi for them. As a rule the walks are guided by Phivos Ioannides.
