Troodos South Slope Mini
3-nights self-guided walking (Pano Platres based) including a Cyprus Top5 walking trail
Average length 10 km per day - with longer options for each day
This is a 3 nights Pano Platres village based accommodation self-guided walking trip that offers walking experiences that combine beautiful vistas near the top of Cyprus with important ingredients of the island's cultural heritage in the form of vineyards and the wine producing stone-built village of Omodos. The average walking distance per day is about 10 kilometers. The trip focuses on the south slope of Troodos mountains. The package includes Artemis, a Cyprus Top5 walking trail on Olympus peak, at an elevation of more than 1,800 meters, which is great for the whole year except for the time that it is snow covered. We recommend this program for all year round because the walks are relatively short. On the other hand, one should be aware of high temperatures in summer (during this period we suggest to complete the walks in the morning, when it is cooler). The program is also fine for winter, however Artemis trail is usually covered in snow for a couple of months (we have an alternative walking route for this case from Troodos Square to Pano Platres village via the east stretch of Pouziaris trail).
Day of Trip | Average elevation (m) | Total descent (m) | Total ascent (m) | Distance in km | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Day 2 | 1800 | 500 | 400 | 11.5 | A top 5 walk in Cyprus. Artemis is flat and circular, it is found at an elevation of over 1,800 meters and offers panoramic views. In winter it is likely that it is covered in snow (we offer lower elevation alternatives). |
Day 3 | 900 | 450 | 500 | 8.5 | A two-way walk in a valley with a stream and Myllomeris Waterfall, followed by a route through vineyards. The 2nd walk ends at picturdque stone-built Omodos village. |
Average | 1350 | 500 | 450 | 10 | Combination of different habitats (forested mountain slope, valley with cascades, vineyards) and examples of Cyprus cultural heritage (related to the villages of Omodos and Mandria). |
The itinerary (summary) - we have other options for different routes in the package
Day 1 - Arrival to Pano Platres village. Travellers can choose packages with taxi from Paphos/Larnaca airport or no taxi (overnight in Pano Platres)
Day 2 - Taxi from Pano Platres village to Artemis trail. In the afternoon from Troodos Square to Pano Platres village.
If Artemis is snow covered, instead we leave the walkers at Troodos square (and they walk to Pano Platres village).
Day 3 - Do the linear Myllomeris Waterfall trail both ways - Taxi to Mandria village, walk to Omodos village, taxi back to Pano Platres after exploration
Day 4 - Finish
Detailed Itinerary
On Day 1, walkers (who bought the relevant taxi airport package) are transferred by taxi from the (Larnaca or Paphos) airport to Pano Platres village where they stay for three nights. Depending on the time of arrival visitors could relax and explore the village and/or do the short walk back and forth to Myllomeris Waterfall.
On Day 2 travellers do a combination of top elevation Cyprus walks (Artemis trail and a part of Atalanti - please check the short videoclip). This is probably a Top5 Cyprus walk because of its panoramic views and its uniqueness.
Walking on Artemis trail under clear skies offers superb panoramic views of different parts of Cyprus. The trail combines barren rocky land with forested stretches of black pine and of the endemic Troodos juniper. Walkers pass by some very old and huge trees. The walk has a very high value also for those interested in geology. It should be noted that when there is snow, (usually a few months each year) we advise against doing this walk. There is a lower elevation alternative along Persephone trail and the east stretch of Pouziaris trail, ending at the hotel in Pano Platres, that we suggest (part of the package). The standard walk includes also a part of the Atalanti trail that ends at Troodos Square.

For the second walk travellers are transported by taxi to Mandria village. The walk (6 km long) starts at the village of Mandria and descends to picturesque stone-built Omodos village. The scenery changes completely from the forest uphill of Mandria village to vineyards as the route goes through Krassochoria (or 'Wine Villages') of Limassol. The scenery around the vineyards changes considerably through the year as the vines get their leaves back in spring and lose them towards the end of autumn.
Day 3 of the trip includes two separate walks. First, travellers walk on the Myllomeris Waterfalls Trail (1.2 km each way, rather easy) at an elevation of around 1,000 meters. It has typical vegetation of Cyprus valleys such as alder trees, bracken, maple, golden oaks, strawberry trees, storax and plane trees with impressive roots. At 11 meters, Myllomeris is the tallest waterfall in Cyprus, and probably the most scenic. There is a small natural pool in front of the waterfall. A number of visitors take a dip, even outside summer when the water temperature is rather cold.

The area is all green through hot summer and acquires different touches of earthy colours when the leaves turn to brown and yellow in autumn. The route finishes at Omodos village, a popular traditional village in Cyprus. There are numerous wineries very close to the village, restaurants and coffee shops, an ancient monastery in the center, two traditional wine presses and more. At the end of the trip, walkers return to Pano Platres village by taxi.
On Day 4 morning, the package ends. If travellers want we can book additional nights, etc, otherwise (for those who bought a package with taxi to the airport) we arrange a taxi for them.
