Troodos Supreme Max
Cyprus Walks - self-guided - Troodos 6 nights 2 accommodations
Average length 11.5 km per day - includes 3 Top 5 walks in Cyprus
Troodos Supreme Max is a 6 nights, 2 accommodations self-guided walking trip that offers many of the best walking experiences on Troodos mountains, on the beautiful island of Cyprus. The average walking distance per day is abt 11.5 kilometers. The trip focuses on Troodos trails and includes what we consider to be 3 of the top 5 walks in Cyprus. Furthermore it includes trails passing via two of the most scenic waterfalls in Cyprus as well as a walk through vineyards ending at the stone-built picturesque village of Omodos, thus enriching further the experience. We recommend this program for all year round except for summer. For winter there are alternatives in case of snow cover at the top of Troodos.

Detailed Itinerary
On Day 1, walkers, if they booked a package with airport taxi, are transferred by taxi from the (Larnaca or Paphos) airport to the old part of Kakopetria village where they stay for three nights. Depending on the time of arrival visitors could relax and explore the old part of the village and/or visit upto two Unesco World Heritage Troodos painted churches within walking distance from their accommodation.
On Day 2, travellers do a superb 12-km (13 if one walks up to the fire watchtower and back) long circular trail around Madari mountain peak (in the area of Pitsilia, on the Troodos mountain range). The trail is of medium difficulty, without very steep ascents and descents. One may enjoy great views towards the south, including Morphou bay and Pentadactylos mountains, and to the north, including the village of Kyperounta and Troodos peak (to the west there is view towards the village of Spilia). There is great variety in vegetation; travellers walk past golden oak, wild rose and mastic bushes, junipers, pine, strawberry trees, rock rose and sage, and even cedar, plane trees and bracken.
One may also see the interesting rock formations in the area.
The walk can be excellent all around the year. Very rarely in winter there may be some snow cover in places. During July and August we do recommend that one starts the walk early in the morning, in order to avoid ascending the peak under the hot sun.

On Day 4 travellers do a combination of top elevation Cyprus walks (usually the Artemis trail and a part of Atalanti (please check the short videoclip). This is probably a Top5 walk on the whole island of Cyprus because of its panoramic views and its uniqueness.
Walking on Artemis trail under clear skies offers superb panoramic views of different parts of Cyprus. The trail combines barren rocky land with forested stretches of black pine and of the endemic Troodos juniper. Walkers pass by some very old and huge trees. The walk has a very high value also for those interested in geology. It should be noted that when there is snow, (usually a few months each year) we advise against doing this walk. There is a lower elevation alternative along Persephone trail and the east stretch of Pouziaris trail, ending at the hotel in Pano Platres, that we suggest (part of the package). The standard walk includes also a part of the Atalanti trail that ends at Troodos Square.

On Day 3, the walking route has a medieval chapel on each end, it is of medium difficulty and 7 km long (the walk is14 km in total). Stavros Tou Ayiasmati and Panagia Tou Araka are two of the 10 painted churches of Troodos that have been together declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Both have important frescos of the first half of the second millenium.
The route passes by almond orchards, vineyards, and forested area mainly with pine trees and the endemic golden oak. There are steep ascents and descents. At various places walkers need to be careful as the narrow walking trail passes by steep slopes. There are glorious views towards Morphou plain and the western Pentadactylos and Mesaoria plain, up to Kionia peak in the east (identified by the telecommunication tower at the top), the villages of Alona and Platanistasa, the village of Lagoudera in the north (west) and Madari peak.
One may see rock formations known as Tishia tis Madaris (literally “walls of Madari"), as well as Xyliatos manmade lake. Rock rose dominates and in March walkers may see orchids in blossom. The first part of the trail traverses the village of Lagoudera.
In February usually, one can see many almond trees in bloom.

On Day 5 walkers walk a combination of (the west part of) Pouziaris trail and Caledonia Waterfalls trail, found within walking distance of Pano Platres village. At the beginning and the end, travellers walk for some hundreds of meters on the paved road between Pano Platres village and the point that connects the two trails. The combination of the two trails adds significant variety to the experience. Pouziaris trail is largely on mountain slopes with great views and rather sparse vegetation. The trees are mostly evergreen and the scenery is relatively similar throughout the year.
Caledonia Waterfalls trail runs in a valley, along a stream, with small cascades and a waterfall. Caledonia Waterfalls trail is full of plane trees, alder and bracken, whereas pines, golden oaks and rockrose are widespread on Pouziaris trail. In spring the valley is in bloom, especially the rockrose and violas, and in summer it is lush and with diminished flow. The trail crosses the stream a few times (in some spots there are no tiny bridges), and care is needed, especially when there is increased water flow. In (late) autumn one can experience the earthly colours of the leaves as the season turns colder. In winter the bracken is largely dead, many of the valley trees are leafless and the water flow is increased.

For the second walk travellers are transported by taxi to Mandria village. The walk (6 km long) starts at the village of Mandria and descends to picturesque stone-built Omodos village. The scenery changes completely from the forest uphill of Mandria village to vineyards as the route goes through Krassochoria (or 'Wine Villages') of Limassol. The scenery around the vineyards changes considerably through the year as the vines get their leaves back in spring and lose them towards the end of autumn. The area is all green through hot summer and acquires different touches of earthy colours when the leaves turn to brown and yellow in autumn.

Day 6 of the trip includes two separate walks. First, travellers walk on the Myllomeris Waterfalls Trail (1.2 km each way, rather easy) at an elevation of around 1,000 meters. It has typical vegetation of Cyprus valleys such as alder trees, bracken, maple, golden oaks, strawberry trees, storax and plane trees with impressive roots. At 11 meters, Myllomeris is the tallest waterfall in Cyprus, and probably the most scenic. There is a small natural pool in front of the waterfall. A number of visitors take a dip, even outside summer when the water temperature is rather cold.

The route finishes at Omodos village, a popular traditional village in Cyprus. There are numerous wineries very close to the village, restaurants and coffee shops, an ancient monastery in the center, two traditional wine presses and more. At the end of the trip, walkers return to Pano Platres village by taxi.
On Day 7 morning, the package ends. If travellers want we can book additional nights, etc, otherwise we arrange a taxi for them.
