Cape Greco & Ayia Napa 2-days guided kayaking (as default, no accommodation)

customisable routes for each day

This is a 2 days guided kayaking trip along some of the most beautiful coastlines of Cyprus, at the south east tip of the island. The kayaking routes in this package range between 4 km and 7 km, depending on the profile and preferences of the kayakers, the condition of the sea and time availability. We recommend this program for all year round.

Notes

1) The kayaking route around the Ayia Napa Sea Caves is available between May and October. From November to April access close to the Sea Caves is prohibited as Mediterranean monk seals may be using some of the caves to raise their puppies.

2) The kayaking route around the Red Cliffs is available only when there are no military exercises taking place there. We know the exact availability either two weeks in advance or fewer days before the trip date.

3) In general we recommend starting the kayaking trips earlier in the morning, when the sea is usually calmer.

4) In case the sea is not favourable (we only guide trips under less that 5 Beaufort), we either offer an alternative route if possible (usually the east coast is calmer) or offer alternative exploration experiences, especially hiking.

Below one can see most the standard walks in the program.

Please remember that because of the nature of the kayaking trips, the exact route that we do depends on a number of parameters including the sea condition, the profile and preference of the group and time availability.

The itinerary (summary) -  please remember that we have a number of options for kayaking routes in the package
Day 1 - Arrival to arranged accommodation from the airport. The service is offered with free rides from Larnaca, Ayia Napa or Protaras and with no overnights (we have packages with or without taxi rides from and to Larnaca airport). However if the kayakers request so, we can arrange also accommodation. Larnaca accommodation is recommended for those who want to include cultural exploration in their trip (attractions like the medieval St. Lazarus church, the Larnaca fort, other old churches and mosques, museums and the old quarter and a vibrant small city). Also Larnaca being a town (of 60,000 inhabitants) is 'alive' all year round. Protaras and even Ayia Napa tend to be dormant from the middle of November until the end of March.
Day 2 - Free ride from the accommodation to do the first day kayaking trip. We monitor the sea forecast very closely. We assume that we will do the 3-hour kayaking trip to Cape Greco Sea Caves cove on Day 2. Depending on the forecast, we may reverse the day of the trips. After the kayaking trip, free ride back to the accommodation. If the kayakers' accommodation is between Pyla coast and Larnaca, on the way to and from the kayaking area we leave the kayakers on a beach for a few minutes (usually five minutes before kayaking and  around fifteen after kayaking), either to pick up the kayaks trailer or to wash the kayaks and return the loaded kayaks trailer.
Day 3 - Similar to Day 2 - the default kayaking route is the 4-hour kayaking trip to the east coast of Cape Greco.
Day 4 - Finish

Detailed Itinerary

On Day 1, the kayakers (who bought the relevant taxi airport package) are transferred by taxi from the Larnaca airport to their accommodation In Larnaca, Ayia Napa or Protaras (accommodation is not part of the package, we can arrange it if we have relevant request) where they would usually stay for three nights. Depending on the time of arrival visitors could relax and explore the town/resort where they stay and its vicinity.

On Day 2 travellers do the 3-hour kayaking trip to Cape Greco Sea Caves cove.

The sea caves cove is one of the most popular natural attractions in the wider area. The locals know them as 'Palathkia' meaning 'Palaces' in the Greek Cypriot dialect, because of their grand entrances. The cove is a lovely place to explore and the water is light blue with relatively shallow white sandy sea floor. It is not possible to enter the sea caves on a kayak because the entrances are blocked by rocks or they are too shallow.

The starting/finishing point is about 1.5 km from the sea caves. The coastline to the sea caves is rocky and relatively low without any noteworthy characteristic, yet the sea has beautiful light blue waters. Further east the coastline has a number of taller formations and narrow coves. How far east we continue depends on the conditions on the day and the kayakers.

On Day 3 travellers are scheduled to do a 4-hour kayaking trip around south Protaras and east Cape Greco. The route starts about 500 meters south of Green Bay beach and continues south. The usual total distance is about seven km long. Again, the exact route depends of the sea condition, the kayakers profile and preference and time availability. The usual route passes by Konnos bay, Agioi Anargyroi chapel and cave and reaches south to Kamara tou Koraka rocky arch. The first 1.5 kms are in usually calmer, shallow light blue waters, and very close to a flatter limestone rugged coastline. Further south the waters are usually more choppy, yet as a rule calmer than those along the south coast.

During the hot season, lucky kayakers may spot green sea turtles coming to the surface for a breathe.

From May to October, the 4-hour kayaking trip to the Ayia Napa Sea Caves is an alternative to this route.

On Day 4 morning, the package ends. If travellers want we can book additional kayaking trips etc, otherwise (for those who bought a package with taxi to the airport) we arrange a taxi for them.
