Service Description
This is a self-guided 21 km walk (5 - 6 hours) at the top of Troodos via Artemis, Atalanti, Persephone and Caledonia Waterfalls trail ending at Psilon Dendron locality, just north of Pano Platres village. Pickup times: 9:00 in Pano Platres - from Psilon Dendron, walkers are expected to walk to their hotel - trip is not offered in summer More info Artemis offers superb panoramic views of different parts of Cyprus. The trail combines barren rocky land with forested stretches of black pine (and the endemic Troodos juniper). Walkers pass by some very old and huge trees. The walk has a very high value also for those interested in geology. The walk continues on part of the Atalanti trail, that ends at Troodos Square (a good place for a break, as it has a number of cafes/restaurants and shops. From Troodos Square the route proceeds to Persephone trail with views at some stretch towards a 'hidden' manmade lake and then, especially while walking on a connecting dirt road going west, the traveller is compensated with glorious vistas towards Limassol, as far as the coast. The linear Caledonia waterfall trail is the last part of this walk. It runs next to a stream, and naturally the flora and fauna is very different (and richer) from the rest of the route. With a length of just three kilometers, it is quite steep (one needs to be very careful), and crosses the stream at points. Walkers may hear songbirds (especially towards summer), though it is rather difficult to spot them. About midway one finds Caledonia Waterfall, a major natural attraction in the area. The water quantity is not significant, but the setting is nevertheless idyllic. From end it's 1-2 km walk to Pano Platres. Transportation: A private taxi to the start of the walk. What's included? Taxi on default times from Pano Platres village to the start of the walking route. GPS file with the route as well as a pdf file with information on the route.
