Scheduled Platy to Sinti Adventure : Two-Days Walk + Camp Trip
This stunning 32 km long adventure exposes the traveller to beautiful elements of Cyprus rich cultural heritage (Panagia tou Sinti monastery, Kelephos and Roudias medieval bridges, watermills) while taking the walker through a collection of habitats, descending from an elevation of 900 m to 200 m. The route passes through dense pine forests, shaded valleys dominated by alders and plane trees, hills and open valleys. Walkers may be lucky to spot mouflon on the way. This is a two-days (one night) relatively easy walking trip in Paphos Forest and Xeros Potamos Valley and includes camping at the end of the first day's walk. The walk is in an area where no villages exist now, and the route provides walkers with the opportunity to experience the serenity of the Cyprus countryside. The itinerary combines big stretches close to a river bank (or crossing the river a few times) together with parts along the ridge of mountains, adding considerable variety to the views for the traveller and to the flora along the way. Camping halfway (at the picnic site of Pera Vasa, under permission by the relevant authorities) enriches the experience for travellers, providing further opportunities to immerse in beautiful nature, practice skills and bond with fellow travellers.

Detailed Itinerary On Day 1 we initially drive to a junction of a dirt road with the paved road that connects Pedoulas village with Kykkos monastery. We start walking (descending) from there. Much of our Day 1 walk is in beautiful Platy Valley, where according to local tradition, seven communities once lived. The route passes a hill with views of the Paphos Forest and Arminou manmade lake, as well as from scenic Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge. We walk for a while on what is known as the 'Medieval Bridges trail' which was according to tradition used by camel caravans to transport mined material to Paphos port. Our tents and relevant equipment as well as dinner will be transported in advance (by the guide while the travellers rest) to the camping ground at Pera Vasa. The route is relatively easy, while at the same time it includes a few river crossings. It presents an unforgettable experience to those who like to taste our authentic Cyprus. |
On Day 2 our walk starts at our camping ground at Pera Vasa picnic site. From here we walk deep inside the Paphos Forest and pass by Roudias medieval bridge and on to the wide Xeros Potamos Valley. We leave the forest and initially walk on a trail on the rocky outcrop, before we move to the dirt road, crisscrossing Xeros Potamos river a few times. The walk passes close to Ais Yiannis cliffs and a few impressive watermills. If we are in luck we may spot griffon vultures here. The walking trip ends at superb Panagia tou Sinti monastery, the restoration of which won the Europa Nostra award in the 90s.
