Walk in a lush valley!
Platy valley is one of the jewels of Cyprus nature that still exist (which hopefully will be protected and preserved for generations to come). Before the walk one recommendation is to visit one of the three Unesco World Heritage Painted Churches of Troodos in the area. One suggestion is to walk for about 15 km in Platy valley, on a dirt road next to the stream (although logistically this may be difficult).
Winter walks have the advantage of more water in the stream and fewer cars in the valley. On the other hand, towards summer Platy valley becomes lush, which compensates for the decrease in the stream flow and the relative traffic. In the longer version of the walk travellers pass the Komitidji picnic area in the first half of the route. Walkers may see many pine and plane trees in the valley, an abundance of bracken and even fig trees. It is possible to encounter frogs, fresh water crabs or moufflon in the valley. Unfortunately walkers may also see various safari jeeps, but the experience is worth the periodic dusty, noisy encounters.
A suggestion is to finish the trip at the Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge, before an authentic meal at a nearby village restaurant.
