On Day 1, those travellers who book the transfer, from the airport are transported to their hotel at Lysos village. Time to relax at the hotel or visit the stone built village.
On Day 2 walkers explore initially the edge of Paphos Forest, as they descend from Lysos village (elevation abt 550 m) towards Stavros tis Psokas river. Very lucky visitors may spot some of the thousands of mouflon, the endemic wild sheep of Cyprus that live in the forest. Explorers subsequently walk along Stavros tis Psokas river (elevation down to 250 m), inside Evretou Valley, before they cross to the south side of the valley. At points the valley is narrow. There are patches of oak trees in the valley. At some point walkers ascend up the south slope of the valley and pass by stone built Phiti village, (elevation 650 m) home to the vividly coloured traditional 'Phithkiotika' textiles, before completing the last short stretch on the paved road to nearby Lasa village where they spend the night. |
On Day 4 walkers ascend from Agioi Anargyroi (from an elevation of under 200 m) to the top of Laona plateau (600 - 650 m of elevation) and the stone-built village of Drousheia, where they spend the night. On the way they pass through two other traditional villages (Kato Akourdaleia and Kritou Terra) as well as the tiny medieval Agia Paraskevi chapel, a watermill, vineyards, orchards and more.
On Day 6 walkers traverse the south part of pristine Akamas peninsula enjoying glorious views of the west coast as well as of the east part of Chrysochou Bay. About a kilometer before reaching the twin peaks of Pissouromoutti and Smiyies, walkers turn initially south east, and then north east to yet another stone-built village, Neo Chorio (elevation 150 - 200 m), where they spend the night. |
On Day 3 walkers explore more of Evretou Valley. They descend from the village of Lasa and cross Stavros tis Psokas river. On the north side of the riverbank they pass close to a couple of watermills. The deserted Turkish Cypriot village of Evretou is found on the same side of the river (the route doesnot pass by it though, it can be visited as a short addition to the trip). Crossing over to the south side again, the route passes close to medieval Skarfos bridge. The route offers great vistas of the crescent-like Evretou lake. The walk ends at Agioi Anargyroi where travellers spend the night, at the local spa hotel. On Day 5 the walkers explore Akamas west coast. The basic route connects south Lara beach to Touxeftra beach (on the south end of Lara coast) and is just about six (6) km long. The walk can be combined with swimming/snorkelling in a couple of Lara beaches (with the possibility of sea turtle spotting close to summer). A walk in the unique Avakas Gorge is integrated in the route (but can be skipped, there is a degree of danger in that it may be slippery, and there is a possibility of falling rocks from the top). Avakas Gorge offers a unique habitat on the island. The walk ends at Agios Georgios tis Pegeias locality, a place whose history goes back to the arrival of the Greeks around 1,000 BC. On Day 7 walkers from Neo Chorio village go initially west past medieval Agios Minas chapel and Smiyies. From there they head north at some point ascending on the imposing Moutti Tis Sotiras peak, from where they enjoy glorious views of the north west, and of the north coast, all the way to Pomos in the north east. The descent from the peak is for many walkers a huge highlight of the whole trip. Walkers leave Akamas from small yet mythical Baths of Aphrodite cave.
